立川市役所に恒久設置
市の拠点となる庁舎へ、市民の手を経て出来たものをアート作品として昇華させる。これを実現させる為に、「石田倉庫のアートな2日間」は恰好のイベントだった。飲食店なども盛り込み、「お祭り」の形態を持ったこのオープンアトリエは、現代美術の難解さを取り除き、より多くの人々が気楽にアートと触れ合える利点がある。昨年は4000人の来場者を記録し、その大半は立川市在住の方々であった。同時に、自分の仕事場だからこそ、大胆な企画も可能となる。単純な作品展示だけではなく、ここで積極的に「火」を扱うワークショップをメインに行うことで、オープンアトリエの仕組みを最大限に活かせると考えた。
内容はいたって単純。ひたすら真っ赤になった「鉄のモノ」を、みんなで打つ。1300℃を越えるコークスの火力は、「冷たい、堅い」といったスチールのイメージを排除する。そしてハンマーを介して「熱く、柔らかい」感触を味わう。まるで生きているかの様に変容した工業製品の姿に、鉄の素材本来の純粋さを見出すことが出来た。小さなお子様や年配の方まで参加していただき、ここで得たモノや賑わいの時間は、ここでしか成立しない出来事であった。祭りのあと、残された鉄たちは「街の記憶」となった。
記憶を遡ると、それはスチール製品そのものにも強く宿っている。廃品となるまでにさまざまな人の手に渡り、例えば傷や歪みという姿でモノに刻み込まれるのだ。愛用されたものも、酷使されたものも、モノは素直に、無言に、痕跡を残している。こういった道具の記憶を掘り下げていく作業は、その過程で数多くの「人の気配」と出会う仕事でもあった。
そして、「動」から「静」へ。
紙の様にぺらぺらにされ、集められた記憶たちは一冊の本に集約される。文字も数字もないこの本は、無言でありながら、数多くの市民の気配を語る。ゆえに、これは立川市のさまざまな営みを照らし出す史書とも言える。そして将来の文化のあるべき姿を書き綴るスケッチブックでもある。
いずれにせよ、この彫刻に関わる全てが街と深く結びつくものであり、冷え固まった鉄は不変の記録となる。「一冊の街」と題した。

Installed in the City Hall those made public. The realization that “ISHIDA SOKO ART 2DAYS” were very convenient. Festival because it’s a casual, can touch and feel free to esoteric contemporary art. The bold plans can realize in this place. because,The place is my studio.Thought that to do the main workshop dealing with “fire” actively here, and can utilize to maximize the characteristics of open studio.
Content is very simple.Everyone hit the heated “scrap iron”. Temperature of coke burning is more than 1300 ℃. To eliminate the impression of cold hard steel.And experience hot and soft feel through the hammer. Industrial products are changed like a living thing. There is the pure beauty of the original material. from children to seniors, everyone participated in the workshop. Had become an interesting event, because of this lively location. And, “Memory of the town” to their iron stayed.
And go back the memories, it is strongly dwells also steel product itself.Instrument has been the hands of various people. Engraved scratches and distortion is a dwelt own memories in the product. If it was used carefully or roughly, has left a plain trace, to
silence. In the process, I touched many times in the sign of life.
And next stage. From “moving” to “silence”.
Steels become thinner like a paper.Collected memories are bound in one book.The book narrates many “Sign of life” despite there is no letter, no numeral. So this is a history book written a variety of life. And, this is a sketchbook that will write “what should we do now for Culture?”. At any rate, all of the elements involved in the sculpture is deeply linked with the town. Hardened cold iron becomes immutable record. Named “one book of City”.
