船工の絵日記

東京ベイ潮見プリンスホテル/東京都江東区

潮見では人々が住み始めた当初から、造船業が町の発展に関わってきた。この地で船造りにまつわる実物の道具（船具、漁具、大工道具等）をレリーフ化していく。
まずは道具たちを真っ赤に熱し、金槌で平らになるまで叩く。何かをイメージして作るのではなく、ただひたすら叩く。
この無作為な手作業は道具から機能を取り去る「引き算」であり、ものづくりのプロセスを遡る行為とも言える。結果、残されたフォルムには鉄本来の有機的でプリミティブな姿を見出すことができるだろう。
全体のレイアウトにおいても作為を排す。
シンプルに標本のように整然と並べ、個々が際立つ事を重視している。フリーハンドのスケッチのようにも見える「道具の名残たち」は、エントランスの壁面に描かれたこの地の歴史、あるいは人々の記憶を示している。

Shipwright’s Picture Diary

Tokyo Bay Shiomi Prince Hotel / Koto-ku, Tokyo, Japan

I Collected old iron tools related to shipbuilding, heat it and hit it.
While equalizing the basic concept with the “shipwright’s picture diary” installed at the sub-entrance of the hotel,
I reconstructed with an emphasis on Gorgeousness.
Not too concrete, not too abstract.
The ring-shaped form may be imaged with a wreath of woven plants. Or it may be the entrance to another world. While leaving the imagination to the viewer, I made a simple ring as a form suitable for the entrance.
Aiming to make the work stand out even in the surrounding environment with many elements, the surface is specially painted in brass antique color. Brass is also a material often used for old shipbuilding, and is a finish reminiscent of the history of Shiomi’s shipbuilding.
